EDS Reduce Operational Costs through Route Monitoring and Driver Compliance
January 2010
Established in 1994, EDS is a multi-national organisation specialising in Contaminated Plant Decommissioning services, specifically the supply of plant and workers to facilities, which are undergoing complex decommissioning processes, project managing the decommissioning process and the disposal of all material.
In a project valued at £150,000, VSc Solutions have provided a hosted solution for real-time fleet management of minibuses, cars and plant. EDS run scrap transporters, low-loaders for moving heavy plant, specialised decommissioning plant, and minibuses and private cars to transport workers with a total fleet size of 45.
Improved Efficiency through vehicle tracking
For EDS it is crucial that they manage and monitor the use of appropriate vehicles for each project and that they conform to strict Health and Safety regulations. Vehicle Tracking and Telematics from VSc has been implemented in all of their vehicles and has vastly improved the management and efficiency of their transport.
Live vehicle tracking enables EDS to :
- Select suitable vehicle for movement of workers
- Track vehicles collecting and discharging hazardous or high-value scrap
- Generate automated driver hours for accurate payment
- Undertake Health and Safety monitoring and alerting regarding entry of minibus/cars into restricted areas
- Monitor of non-authorised vehicle usage
- Analyse time spent on each site over the working day/week for billing and engineer payment
- Validate mileage claimed by employees
- Receive speed alerts to ensure driver/public safety
- Analyse utilisation to enable reallocation of under-utilised vehicles
The next phase of implementation includes Asset tagging of non-powered plant items, e.g. cutters.
Mike Henderson, Senior IT Manager at EDS, comments:
“The functionality provided by the integrated Vehicle Tracking and Telematics solution from VSc Solutions means that we can now actively manage our fleet and reduce mileage through route monitoring and driver compliance”.
